It is believed that the concept of birthstones has a biblical origin, connecting back to the breastplate of Aaron. Often referred to as "Aaron the Priest", he was the brother of Moses, a prophet and the first High Priest of the Israelites. Aaron's ceremonial breastplate was said to hold four rows of three precious stones, symbolizing the 12 tribes of Israel.
